I Accidentally Fell in Love With Amaryllis

In more than 20 years of growing houseplants, I have resisted the urge to grow Amaryllis. I’m not sure why really. It’s so rare to have a plant that blooms at Christmas time and Amaryllis flowers are showy and beautiful. I think maybe I’ve resisted because I feel a sort of pressure to make ChristmasContinue reading “I Accidentally Fell in Love With Amaryllis”

My Five Favorite Houseplants – Winter 2023

It’s true that my favorite plants can change daily, but I thought it would be fun to share my current favorites with you. #5 – Network Calathea (Goeppertia kegeljanii (formerly Calathea musaica)) – I have killed one or two of these plants in the past, but this third one is thriving in my care. How to Care for Philodendron ‘Florida Ghost’

The Florida Ghost is one of my top five favorite houseplants. Their leaf shape is one of the most interesting of the Philodendrons; straight out of a jungle. Their most exciting quality, in my opinion, is the bright white color of the new leaves. They contrast so nicely from the green of the mature leaves.Continue reading “How to Care for Philodendron ‘Florida Ghost’”

My 2022 Houseplant Wishlist

It is becoming a difficult task to make plant wish lists. I am personally at a place in my plant collecting where I will either have to build a glass house on our property to grow my plants or give up on the hobby entirely. That’s it. That’s where we’re at, my friends. Actually, myContinue reading “My 2022 Houseplant Wishlist”

My favorite plants change on a regular basis, so don’t hold me to this list in a few weeks time. But for now, these are my favorite plants. #5 – Peace Lily ‘Platinum Mist’ (Spathiphyllum ‘Platinum Mist’) – My Platinum Mist is still going strong. It is such a beautiful and easy care plant. TheContinue reading “My Current Top Five Favorite Houseplants”

Houseplant Wishlist 2021

Have you made a houseplant wish for 2021? I just made mine and it was harder than I would have thought. My house is at maximum capacity for plants at this point so any new plants that I buy come at the cost of getting rid of one of my other plants. There’s just noContinue reading “Houseplant Wishlist 2021”
